PACIFIC DIRECTCONNECT PRESENTS WIRELESS
PDC partners with Avaya and Nomadix to provide wireless access to the Internet
for PTC 2001 Conference attendees at Hilton Hawaiian Village

Honolulu, Hawaii, January 16, 2001 - In accordance with its mission to deliver comprehensive communication solutions to businesses throughout the Pacific Rim, Pacific Direct Connect (PDC), a Honolulu based Internet Solutions Provider, announced today it has installed and supported the use of wireless access to the Internet for the Pacific Telecommunications Council "PTC2001 Conference," January 14 to January 18, 2001. Pacific Direct Connect offered conference attendees wireless access service to their personal laptop computers.

Hilton Hawaiian VillagePTC2001 conference attendees were able to access the Internet, check e-mail, and obtain conference information using their personal laptop computers throughout the conference venue, the Hilton Hawaiian Village. This is the first time that broadband wireless technology has been used for a conference or convention anywhere in the State of Hawaii.

This exciting new breakthrough in Internet access incorporates the Nomadix Inc. product Universal Subscriber Gateway (USG) with wireless LAN technology provided by Avaya. Awarded patent in October 2000, the Nomadix USG solves all issues regarding subscriber management, including plug and play access technology. The USG aids in increasing revenue and branding opportunities, in regulating network and bandwidth management, and in providing numerous billing options for subscribers. The USG resolves hurdles faced by non-native computers in operating on any network using TCP/IP; allowing for true nomadic computing or "Nomadicity". The term "Nomadicity" was coined by one of the founders of the company, Leonard Kleinrock, who is recognized as one of the Fathers of the Internet for his work regarding packet switching technology.

"Nomadix is excited to be part of this innovative deployment. We are also pleased to be working in conjunction with PDC, the folks at PTC2001, the management of Hilton Hawaiian Village and Avaya to help make Nomadicity a reality for the attendees of the conference," said Nomadix's Vice President of Sales, Craig Serio. "One of the benefits of the USG is its ability to work with any network utilizing TCP/IP traffic since we are agnostic to the method of transport. The fact that this deployment utilizes 802.11b wireless access helps illustrate the USG's wide range of interoperability and the increased value its feature set provides to any network."

Avaya has provided its leading edge communication equipment and solutions for PTC2001 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. With the Avaya Wireless suite of products, the power of data networking is available anywhere: in the home, the garden, the office, a hotel, an airport lounge, a university campus, a mall, or a park. This is the next wave of communication computing-networks and broadband connectivity available within moments to make life easier and work more efficient.

"The value of this project in Honolulu lies in the high-profile visibility that will be given to Avaya's leading edge technology during the PTC2001 Conference, attended by top executives of high-tech companies from around world" said Jason Herrera, Western Regional Sales Manager, Avaya.

"PTC has chosen to promote technology that is practical in today's ever-changing telecommunications industry. We are very happy to be able to support their decision by providing them with wireless Internet solutions to meet their special needs," states Mike Browning, Chief Operating Officer of Pacific Direct Connect.
